Seeing Sound: A New Acousto-Optic Scanning Technique Could Mean Better Speaker Technology

This new measurement technique developed by the UK based National Physical Laboratory [NPL] has big potential in the development of audio acoustics and product design. In other words, even better, more accurate sound systems coming soon near you.

This is a new laser-driven technique developed at NPL to allow remote and rapid mapping of sound fields. Particularly useful for looking at speaker directivity characteristics. Measurements made at a distance of 3m from speaker.
