RIP Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch AKA MCA – A Look Back At Some Of The Classics

Adam Yauch also known as MCA of the Beastie Boys has passed away today at age 47 after a battle with cancer. The Beastie Boys started out as a hardcore punk band in 1979 and released their EP Polly Wog Stew in 1982. Their debut album Licensed to Ill was released via Def Jam in 1986, the label’s second album and by then, the Beastie’s were experimenting with hip hop.

Pioneers of an era, they quickly rose to fame and continued recording. In 2009, Adam was diagnosed with a tumor in his salivary gland and made a public announcement in true Beastie’s style via YouTube about his condition. Their last album as a group, Hot Sauce Committee Part Two was released in 2011 and they were just inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April.

Sadly, cancer has unnecessarily claimed yet another life way too soon. Thanks for the memories and rest in peace MCA. Here’s looking back at some of the classics.
